CHORUS: we are here prepared for tragedy
A performance on the borders of lecture, dance, concert and theatre about the tragedies worth living and those not worth living. Starting from the choruses of ancient tragedies, the performance raises contemporary concerns about collective action and its capacity to shape critical interventions, to claim social change and to demand the impossible. The protagonist of the performance is CHORUS.
Choreographer Sophia Mavragani, in collaboration with the team of perfomers and to the sounds of Larry Gus' music, sets up a heretical dance about contemporary Greek tragedy. Choral odes and opinions of important thinkers of our time compose a single, collective and at the same time original text. Through the meeting of acting, dance, and performance, a polyphonic and heterogeneous ensemble is created that asserts, denounces, reflects, and divides. How does a body maintain its autonomy and at the same time redefine itself within a group? How does he/she function as a member of a social group and how it is decided who those members are? Whose tragedy is worthy of mourning?
